SikaShield® Primer W-30 IN

Water based bituminous primer for SikaShield® bituminous waterproofing membranes (Formerly Sika® WP Shield Primer)

DESCRIPTION

SikaShield® Primer W-30 IN is single component, quick drying, water based modified bituminous primer which penetrates and activates the substrates. It improves adhesion between the substrate and preformed bituminous sheet membranes in SikaShield® range. USES Used as a primer for better adhesion of the torch-on and stick-on Atactic Poly Propylene (APP) and Styrene Butadiene Styrene (SBS) modified bituminous waterproofing membranes.

CHARACTERISTICS / ADVANTAGES

Excellent bond with concrete, screed mortar, porous stones and lime-concrete substrates ▪ ▪ Bonds well with old bituminous substrates ▪ Easy application by brush, spray or roller ▪ Good penetration in cementitious substrates Effective activation of the surface to receive the waterproofing sheet membrane ▪ ▪ Specially designed for tropical conditions

BASIS OF PRODUCT DATA

All technical data stated in this Product Data Sheet are based on laboratory tests. Actual measured data may vary due to circumstances beyond our control. ECOLOGY, HEALTH AND SAFETY User must read the

most recent corresponding Safety Data Sheets (SDS) before using any products. The SDS provides information and advice on the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemical products and contains physical, ecological, toxicological and other safety-related data. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS Strictly follow installation procedures as defined in method statements, application manuals and working instructions which must always be adjusted to the actual site conditions. SUBSTRATE QUALITY Concrete, lime-concrete and mortar screed surfaces must be clean, free from grease, oil & loosely adhering particles. ▪ New concrete should be cured for at least 28 days and should have a pull off strength ≥ 1.5 N/mm2. ▪

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

Cementitious or mineral based substrates to be prepared mechanically using wire brush, grinder, abrasive blast cleaning or scarifying equipment to remove cement laitance and to achieve an open textured surface. ▪ Loose friable material and weak concrete to be completely removed and surface defects such as blowholes and voids must be fully exposed. ▪ ▪ Use Sikadur® or SikaLatex® or Sika MonoTop® range of repair materials for filling in potholes, voids or cracks on the substrates. The cementitious substrates to be carefully assessed for moisture content, air entrapment, and surface finish prior to any primer application. ▪ MIXING SikaShield® Primer W-30 IN is mixed with clean water up to maximum 50 % to achieve desired consistency. Stir the contents well before application. IMPORTANT The primer may become high viscous due to change in ambient conditions like temperature and humidity that might affect the consistency and increase consumption of the primer. Under such situation, a site modification by further diluting the primer as per the advice of the Sika Technical Service may be necessary to achieve the desired application consistency. The dilution is to be fixed on the basis of site trials but not to exceed 50 % by weight of the primer.

APPLICATION IMPORTANT

Do not apply SikaShield® Primer W-30 IN when it is raining or when rain is imminent. IMPORTANT Do not apply SikaShield® Primer W-30 IN on substrates with oil or grease contamination. IMPORTANT Do not apply SikaShield® Primer W-30 IN on dry surface in extreme hot weather. Surface must be cooled by spray or mist of water before application. IMPORTANT Apply the membrane within 24 hours of primer

application

Apply bituminous primer to a clean, smooth and dry surface by brush, roller or spray in single coat as per consumption given. Ensure full wetting and coverage of the surface. 1. In some cases, a second coat of primer may be necessary, allow 24 hours between successive coats. 2. Application of bituminous membranes must be done soon after the primer is hard dry. 3. CLEANING OF TOOLS Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened and/or cured material can be removed mechanically or using thinner.
